MOORHEAD (KFGO) – Kassi Sofferman, a local social worker and founder of the nonprofit Midwest Family Support and Advocacy, has launched her campaign for Mayor of Moorhead.
“As a mom with three kids, and as a social worker who’s worked for years to help others, I’ve seen firsthand the needs in our community and where progress can be made. I know families are struggling, and our city staff need support from their city leadership, too. I’m up to the task, and I want to improve the quality of life for our people.”
Sofferman says she wants Moorhead to be a welcoming community, while ensuring that city services are top notch.
“We have such potential to not only help those in need, but also lessen the burden of our hardworking families. I want to be a mayor for the people who are struggling. As a mayor for the people, I envision that role as one bringing our city staff and our residents to the table. I will be a collaborative and supportive mayor.”
Sofferman is seeking the mayoral seat currently held by Shelly Carlson, who is running as a Democrat for the District 4A House seat of the Minnesota legislature.
Democratic representative Heather Keeler is not seeking another term in the legislature and instead hopes to receive the party’s nomination to challenge 7th Republican representative Michelle Fischbach next November.
Carlson was elected to the Moorhead City Council in 2018 and appointed mayor three years later. She was elected to a four-year term in 2022.
