FARGO (KFGO) – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office in Fargo is warning of a scam that’s similar to one that surfaced in Minnesota and other states recently. Several county employees have received text messages on their county-issued phones that appeared to be from the North Dakota Department of Motor Vehicles.
They mention fines and a threat of license suspension if the fines are not paid. The messages include a link to a fake website that the Sheriff’s Office says could be used to collect a victim’s credit card information.
The state does not send text messages that demand payment for an unpaid fine.
