UNDATED – Higher temperatures and an extreme fire risk on Sunday led to grass fires in several areas of Minnesota and North Dakota on Sunday.
Douglas County, Minnesota fire crews responded to a grass and vehicle fire. A vehicle had entered the ditch. Grass caught fire while the driver attempted to get out and the flames spread to the car. The vehicle was a total loss and the driver was treated for minor injuries.
In St. Louis County, firefighters were called to a fire at the Lakeland Mobile Home Park. Two people were brought to the Aurora hospital with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. The two were burning grass when the fire spread underneath the mobile home. The trailer had minimal damage.
In North Dakota, various local and tribal fire departments responded to a series of prairie fires in the Turtle Mountain region in the northern part of the state.
The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning for eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota into Monday evening in a line stretching from Cass and Clay Counties to the Canadian border.
