ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KFGO/WCCO) – Former President Donald Trump will hold a presidential campaign rally this Saturday in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
Trump’s campaign is expected announced more details about the event later on Tuesday.
The former president isn’t the only one coming to Minnesota this weekend. Saturday, Trump’s choice of running mate will be in Minneapolis. Ohio Senator J.D. Vance will make a fundraising appearance at an undisclosed location.
The Republicans, including Minnesota Rep. Tom Emmer (R) who represents the St. Cloud area, have made it clear they expect the state not only to be in play for the Republican nominee for president, they’re expecting to win.
Emmer said last week he expects Minnesota to go Trump’s way.
“I think we have a very good chance of going red,” Emmer said. “I mean, if you look back, Donald Trump came within 1.5 points of beating Hillary Clinton in 2016.”
That would be a first for Republicans in a long time. Minnesota has famously voted for every Democratic candidate for president going back to Richard Nixon’s runaway victory in the 1972 Election. That includes 1984 when Republican Ronald Reagan won every state in the U.S. except for opponent Walter Mondale’s home state of Minnesota.
