FARGO (KFGO) – Bethany Retirement Living and 4 Luv of Dog Rescue rolled out a new companionship program last week that connects residents with older dogs.
It’s called Seniors for Seniors and kicked off last week at their 42nd Street location.
Brianne Anderson is Director of Community Life at Bethany. She said once a month, staff from 4 Luv of Dog rescue will bring in an older dog that will be able to interact with residents, their families, and staff.
Anderson said the goal of the program is to foster companionship for their residents while trying to find permanent homes for dogs at the shelter.
The first dog to meet with residents was Ms. Sniffer, a seven-and-a-half year old beagle.
“She came in for about an hour-and-a-half,” Anderson said. “We were able to bring residents down to our chapel area where a couple of the employees from 4 Luv of Dog brought [her] around to visit. We played catch with her and interacted, and learned about where she came from and her likes and dislikes.”
Anderson said the feedback they’ve gotten from their fist session has been very positive.
