FARGO (KFGO) – Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski said recently that cracking down on street racing, speeding, and the noise on city streets continues to be a challenge.
City Commissioner Arlette Preston recommended city staff, in this case, led by city engineers examine “any and all” possibilities to slow the racers down. Commissioners agreed, and voted to have the city engineering staff study possible changes. Preston brought the issue to the city commission more than a year ago.
City Engineer Brenda Derrig said the department will meet with the police department to better understand what routes are the most used by street racers, the timing, and what options could be used to do some improvements.
Zibolski said officers will ramp up for planned crackdowns as was done last summer. The Highway Patrol is also expected to have a plane with a special camera to find the violators from the air and radio the information to law enforcement on the ground.
