FARGO (KFGO) – It’s almost time for the public to try their “green thumb” at gardening for the new growing season in the Fargo Metro area.
Once again this year, the Fargo Park District invites folks to rent their own Garden Plot at Yunker Farm in north Fargo.
The park district will have a trailer set up at the site from 6am to noon on Tuesday, May 16th, for people to purchase rentals, and park staff will help people find the perfect 20′ x 30′ space for $20 per plot.
Marketing specialist Cassie Doll says, “So, 20 by 30 feet, if you can you picture that in your mind, that is a very large plot. You can go in with your friends, you can go in with your family, just everyone has to remember that they are in charge of their own area. If you’re doing it as a group, make sure that you plan to have that weeded and taken care of as a group.”
Due to popularity, Doll says the site may expand in the future. “We’re still currently getting that plan situated and we still have input coming in. But we did hear that a lot of the folks wanted to expand the garden plots. That is potentially in the cards. The plots will remain at Yunker Farm. They will potentially be moved a little bit, but they will be able to continue to stay at Yunker Farm.”
It’s first come, first serve, and individuals can rent up to four plots. Cash, check or credit cards are accepted. The plot preparation, extra soil or fertilizer materials, tools, operation, and maintenance of the community garden will be the responsibility of the assigned gardeners. The Fargo Park District does not supply water or electricity by the gardens.
Yunker Farm is on North University Drive, north of the NDSU Campus and the Fargodome.
