ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Grocers Association has announced its 34th annual Bagger of the Year, the winner of Saturday’s contest in St. Paul, Tyler Thorvig from Chris’ Food Center – Sandstone.
The Association’s Jamie Pfuhl says the baggers are judged on style, attitude, proper bag building technique and weight distribution, and – of course – speed.
“Speed is a key component,” Pfuhl said. “That is one of the top areas where they get the most scores – how fast they bag, but making sure that you still do all of the other components correctly.”
The contest consists of six baggers from Association member companies all across the state. Pfuhl says the Thorvig earns five-hundred dollars and a trip to the National Best Bagger Championship in Las Vegas.
