MINNEAPOLIS – A chaotic Fourth of July holiday in Minneapolis is prompting city leaders to speak out.
Seven people were wounded after a shooting late Monday evening at Boom Island.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey says this conduct “should not be acceptable in any city, the kind of violence, the recklessness, and in some cases, idiotic behavior that we saw shouldn’t be tolerated. And let me be clear — it won’t be tolerated.”
Interim Police Chief Amelia Huffman says the latest data from June 18 shows the department has 654 active officers – well below the department’s authorized strength of 888 sworn officers.
A recent court decision requires the city to have at least 731 officers.
