FARGO (KFGO) – The City of Fargo and local developer Jim Roers could end up in court or they might be able to come to an agreement about a plan to build seven townhouses that were promised but not built by Roers Development Co.
The townhouses are supposed to be a buffer between nearby homes and large apartments and the St. Paul Newman Center in the Roosevelt neighborhood.
Roers was heavily criticized by some city commissioners earlier this month for not completing the townhouses by the deadline at the end of last year. Since then, there have been three meetings.
The first was with Roers, his attorney, and city commissioners, followed by a meeting with Roosevelt Neighborhood Association representatives. Last Friday, the city received an offer from the attorney for Roers.
Assistant City Administrator Mike Redlinger said prior to the next city commission meeting on May 31, there will be a closed-door meeting which could include negotiations about the offer of Roers. Mayor Tim Mahoney told city commissioners who received the offer to keep it confidential because of possible litigation.
Roers had earlier asked the city for more time to complete construction saying congestion in the area caused the delay.
