FARGO (KFGO) – Storms ripped through areas of Minnesota, South Dakota, and extreme southeastern North Dakota. Damage was reported in many areas from the high winds and hail. High winds in the Breckenridge and Wahpeton areas damaged some homes and buildings.
The FM metro was lucky. The storm system lost its punch as it moved north. Several funnel clouds were reported in Barnes County and south of Park Rapids but no touchdowns were reported.
Jim Kaiser, with the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, said there was a possible touchdown and that was a tornado “waterspout” on West Mason Lake, northwest of Vining, in Otter Tail County.
Several electric cooperatives, including Otter Tail Power and Lake Region co-op, have reported significant outages in western Minnesota from the storm damage.
Authorities also reported that a grain bin fell on a car just before 7 p.m. Thursday in Blomkest in southwestern Minnesota’s Kandiyohi County, killing a passenger inside.
