FARGO (KFGO) – As fuel prices rise, ag leaders are urging the White House to tap renewable fuels to counter potential energy shortages due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Corn grower leaders from 19 states, including the Presidents of the North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota Corn Growers Associations, sent an open letter to President Biden calling on him to use the administration’s existing emergency authorities to tap more homegrown renewable fuels, like ethanol, to help stabilize energy markets and lower the price of fuel for consumers.
The letter comes as Russia’s attack on Ukraine has impacted energy markets, increasing oil and gas prices.
The letter called on the president to prevent consumers from losing the choice of E-15, often marketed as Unleaded 88, a higher ethanol blend that costs less and reduces emissions.
