ABERDEEN, S.D. (MSUM Athletics)– A double-double from junior forward Peyton Boom led the Minnesota State University Moorhead women’s basketball team to a 69-60 win over Montana State University-Billings in nonconference action Saturday at Wachs Arena in Aberdeen, S.D. The game was part of the Dacotah Bank Classic.
MSUM is now 1-4 while MSUB fell to 5-4.
Boom finished with season-highs of 21 points and 13 rebounds in the win for MSUM. Sophomore forward Shyanne Loiland had 11 points, which is a season-high, while sophomore guard Mariah McKeever added 11 points.
Junior guard Natalie Steichen added eight assists, a season-high.
MSUM shot a season-best 45.6 percent (26-of-57) while holding the Yellow Jackets to 34 percent shooting (18-of-53).
The Dragons took a 39-33 lead into halftime as Steichen drained a three-pointer in the final seconds. MSUM led by as many as nine in the second quarter.
MSUM pushed the lead to double digits in the fourth quarter when Boom scored with 8:20 left to make it 64-53. Moments later Loiland hit a three to push MSUM up 67-55. The Dragons would lead by as many as 14 in the final frame on their way to their first win.
The Dragons are now done with nonconference play and will travel to UMary for an NSIC game on Thursday night.
