APPLE VALLEY, MINN. – A somewhat unusual search is underway by the staff at the Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley. The zoo, in a Facebook post, says that during a routine exercise and training session earlier this month, its Eurasian eagle owl, named Gladys, flew off to a tree and failed to return,
Staff has been tracking Gladys around the Zoo grounds and while she is likely to be somewhere within the 485-acre, heavily forested grounds, the zoo is asking the public to keep an eye out for the owl, is one of the largest in the world and is native to Europe and Asia. It has piercing orange eyes and a wingspan of up to six feet.
Gladys does not pose a threat to public safety and the zoo is working with local wildlife agencies and authorities to find her. They have also asked if anyone sees a bird that might appear similar to call their local police department.
