PARK RAPIDS, Minn. – Opponents of Enbridge’s Line 3 pipeline say a judge has granted a temporary restraining order, ordering Hubbard County law enforcement to cease blockading protesters’ encampment and stop issuing citations.
It came on another day of protests Friday that prompted officials to close an eight-mile stretch of Highway 32 between Thief River Falls and Saint Hilaire (hih-LAIR) in northwest Minnesota’s Pennington County.
State Patrol officials say they shut down the highway because there were a lot of vehicles on the roadway and it was difficult to ensure safety for the traveling public.
Protesters calling themselves “water protectors” are trying to halt construction of the controversial Line 3 pipeline.
