BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO) -Governor Burgum has signed a proclamation designating North Dakota as a “Second Amendment Sanctuary State,” reinforcing what he says is the state’s support for the constitutional right to keep and bear arms.
During this session, Burgum signed at least ten gun-related bills into law. One of the bills removed liability for a person defending themselves. That bill made North Dakota a “Stand Your Ground” state, making it one of more than 40 other states with similar laws.
Burgum said the signing of the bills and the proclamation sends a strong message to Congress and the White House that the state will “firmly resist” any attempts to infringe on the right to keep and bear arms.
A number of those bills were NRA-backed. Legislative Action North Dakota State Director Brian Gosch said the Sanctuary State proclamation is a “commonsense law that puts the rights for the people above the rights of the criminals.”
