FARGO, N.D. (NDSU Athletics) – The North Dakota State women’s track & field team is ranked 16th in the latest national rating index released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) this week.
NDSU’s national ranking is based on the potential for team points at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, scheduled for June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore.
NDSU’s No. 16 national ranking is powered by four different Bison women who currently rank among the top five in the NCAA in the throwing events. Maddy Nilles (hammer throw) and Akealy Moton (shot put) both stand at No. 3 on the national performance list, and Shelby Gunnells (shot put) and Kari Wolfe (javelin) are both fifth in the country.
The Bison throwers were joined by junior distance runner Jennie Baragar-Petrash on the national scene last weekend. Baragar-Petrash clocked the second-fastest 5000m in NDSU history to rank 13th in the nation.
In all, the Bison women have achieved 10 individual performances that rank in the NCAA’s Top 50 this season.
