BISMARCK – North Dakota’s Republican-led Senate has killed legislation to legalize recreational marijuana in the state.
Only 10 of the chamber’s 47 senators voted for the measure Thursday. The bill sailed through the GOP-led House last month with a 85-8 vote for approval.
Backers of the legislation said they were to get ahead of citizen-initiated efforts to legalize marijuana in the state.
The bill mirrored much of the state’s medical marijuana program, which the 2017 Legislature implemented after voters approved it in 2016.
