Since we’ve received our first snowfall I thought it might be fun to turn back the pages of time. My aunt found a couple of boxes of negatives that we guessed were from the mid 1920’s. The pictures were taken during various times of the year, but here are five from the winter months.
Again, we believe they were from Northwestern Minnesota possibly Marshall county.
Obviously a pretty pleasant day when these men were in shirt sleeves with snow still on the ground. I was reminded however that they often wore those one piece “long johns” in the winter! Still looks like a pleasant day though.
A love this shot above…not only a look at one of the homes of the day but notice the ladder on the roof. Quite common from what I heard to help keep the chimney from freezing up in the winter and also to clean or even clear the chimney of nesting birds. A sturdy item to help the man (or woman) from slipping down the shingles.
I was looking hard for the sleigh bells…but if you wanted to go for a ride on a nice winter day, you just hooked up the sled to the horse and enjoy the ride.
Here a youngster who threw a tantrum and was put out in the snow in a milk can. NO just kidding. but it was quite common for little tots to have their photo taken in a milk can. Maybe you can tell me why?
Love these pictures…had more developed so there’s more to come.
