FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – Fargo Cass Public Health Director Desi Fleming says as COVID-19 positivity rates continue to intensify, so do concerns locally and statewide.
Fleming said Cass County has once again surpassed the state in rolling average positive cases and that trend is “very concerning.” Fleming said North Dakota has already set a record high for deaths this month and is still adding to that total for October.
“I don’t know how to stress the seriousness of the situation, many (people) have become numb to the numbers,” Fleming said.
Fleming also says conttact tracing became overwhelming this past week with a high number of daily cases. Additional tracers are being hired. but with cases rising so rapidly she said it’s hard to play catch-up.
Approximately 40% of the cases in Cass County are now community-spread. They’re difficult to track but contact- tracing continues to identify small clusters of cases and helps support isolation and quarantine, part of what Fleming called “the line of defense” against COVID-19.
Fleming spoke to city commissioners prior to Mayor Tim Mahoney’s Monday announcement ordering a mask mandate in Fargo.
