FARGO (KFGO) – A West Fargo man who was charged with assault and endangerment after striking a demonstrator with his car in West Fargo has died.
The lawyer for 47-year-old Michael Griffin said he died of natural causes late last month after a brief illness.
Griffin was accused of hitting a protester and driving three blocks before the demonstrator jumped off the hood of the car. The man told police that he feared for his life. The May 30 protest, which began in Fargo and extended into West Fargo, preceded the rioting in downtown Fargo that broke out that night. The demonstration and rioting were in support of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
Griffin’s attorney said he believes the evidence would have cleared Griffin had the case gone to trial.
