FARGO (KFGO) – Concert promoter Jade Nielsen and Fargo Brewing Company are asking city commissioners for some leniency to allow more outdoor sound permits for concerts in the parking lot of the brewery on North University Drive.
Nielsen says his company, Jade Presents, like other promoters nationwide, has taken a a big financial hit during the pandemic. It has caused cancellations and postponements of concerts and other live events. As a result, Nielsen is shifting to smaller events with local and regional talent that can be done outside, safely.
However, a city ordinance allows an applicant only one outdoor sound permit per month. Nielsen says he’s asking for a moratorium on the limit and allow additional outdoor sound permits at Fargo Brewing for the next three to four months
Nielsen says as a promoter, he doesn’t expect to get back to business as it was prior to the epidemic until sometime in 2021. That’s because national touring artists have decided to stay home.
The proposed change, drawn up by City Attorney Erik Johnson, at the request of City Commissioner Dave Piepkorn, recommends approval of the moratorium and allow no more than 5 permits every 30 days, ending in September or October.
