FARGO (KFGO) – Fargo Police Chief Dave Todd says organizers of Saturday night’s riot in downtown Fargo came to town for a specific purpose: to cause destruction and mayhem.
In an interview with KFGO’s Dan Michaels, Todd said the rioters were organized and used tactics designed to hamper the work of law enforcement. “We had some bad actors that came here to specifically cause destruction and mayhem.”
“They had vehicles associated with them that had jugs of water and milk for the CS gas. They had another car where they popped open the trunk and handed out gloves for people to pick up the CS gas rounds and throw back at the police.”
“They were very organized” Todd said. “They had people on rooftops and parking garages to direct their efforts and provide recon of what we were doing. They had about 2-3 people on motorcycles as scouts.”
Fargo police deployed at least 65 officers Saturday night. Other area police officers, sheriff’s deputies, the North Dakota Highway Patrol, and the National Guard provided assistance.
Todd says four police officers were seriously injured. Many others received less serious injuries from rocks and other items thrown at them.
