FARGO (KFGO) – A Moorhead, Minn. man who’s running for the U.S. House says stronger background checks are needed for firearm purchases.
Thaddeus Laugisch is seeking the Democratic endorsement in Minnesota’s District 7. On KFGO’s News & Views, Laugisch said he wants to limit the size of gun magazines and require licenses or permits for gun owners.
“We need to ensure that the people that have a weapon that can fatally injure someone else, like we do a vehicle, has the proper permits and has the proper licensing” Laugisch said.
“If we have to get a permit and a driver’s license to operate a vehicle, why can’t we have anything like that established for a firearm?”
Laugisch said magazines capable of holding 100 rounds of ammunition are “insane.” He said “unless you’re going to sit there and just blow away a target on practice day, there’s no need for it.”
Laugisch is running for the seat now held by Democratic Rep. Collin Peterson, who has not yet announced if he’s running for another term.
