FARGO (KFGO) – The company which owns K-Mart stores says it plans to close stores in St. Paul and International Falls by the end of the year. The closing of the Fargo location, on University Drive S., was confirmed over the weekend.
That will leave just one of the once prominent retail chain’s stores in Minnesota. Kmart in Minneapolis will be the only one still open.
TransformCo issued a statement saying it will start liquidating the Kmart stores in Fargo, St. Paul and International Falls within a few weeks and the stores would close in mid-December.
TransformCo paid $5.2 billion for more than 400 Sears and Kmart stores and other assets of the retailers’ parent company.
The company has since close dozens of stores in several states.
