The National Park Service is looking for volunteers to shoot elk in the south unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
More than 900 elk have been roaming the unit in southwestern North Dakota, and officials want to reduce their numbers. Interested hunters should fill out an online application.
Starting in November, a group of four volunteer shooters and a park service employee will be going into the park every weekday for 12 weeks. North Dakota game and fish wildlife division chief Randy Kreil says up to 240 volunteers will be needed.
Applicants have to pass a background check and shooting test, and they have to be in shape to handle some tough hiking. They'll be able to keep the first elk they shoot.
