FBI gives posthumous award to Sen. Rod Grams

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The late Sen. Rod Grams is being recognized for his work in bringing the Amber Alert system to Minnesota.

The FBI has posthumously awarded Grams with its FBI Director's Community Leadership Award.

The FBI says that in 2002 Grams was instrumental in making Minnesota the seventh state to implement the Amber Alert system, which helps publicize certain child abduction cases.

Since the program's inception, 28 Amber Alerts have been issued in Minnesota, and all 28 children have been located.

Grams was also involved in many community organizations, including the Center for Victims of Torture and Mission 500, which works to end child hunger.

Grams died in October after battling cancer. His wife, Chris, accepted the award on his behalf at a Wednesday ceremony.
