Risk of Red River flood remains low

FARGO, N.D. (AP) - National Weather Service officials say winter conditions have been favorable for Red River Valley residents looking to get a spring break from flooding.

But forecasters say that could change depending largely on the melting cycle and possible late precipitation.

The weather service on Thursday issued its second flood outlook of the season. Meteorologist Greg Gust says there aren't drastic changes from the January report that showed a low risk of severe flooding along the Red River and its tributaries.

Gust says cold weather could persist into March and early April and a delayed frost is expected. He says that is mostly good news but could increase the exposure to heavier snow or rain.
