Cassell, not Bridgewater to start season opener

Winter Park, MN (kfgo am)-- Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer has named Matt Cassell the starting quarterback in week 1 of the season at St. Louis. Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports that Zimmer informed the team this morning of his decision. Cassell has been steady during the first 3 games of the preseason completing 26 of 39 passes for 367 yards and 2 touchdowns. Bridgewater has shown that he can perform at the NFL level, but Cassell hasn't done anything to relinquish the starting job. Zimmer had tabbed Cassell number 1 on the depth chart heading into the pre-season. The Vikings are 3-0 in pre-season play and will travel to Nashville to face the Titans on Thursday in their final tune-up before starting the regular season at St. Louis Sunday, September 7th.
