Rain approaching four inches

FARGO, ND. (KFGO AM) -- Since last Wednesday, Fargo has had 3.68 inches of rain, and KFGO forecaster Terry Spies says we haven't seen the last of it.

Expect a brief reprieve today before more rain and then snow move in tonight.

More rain is in the forecast tomorrow.

All the rain has sent the Red River and its tributaries on a fast rise.

The National Weather Service says the Red in Fargo could top out at 28.5 feet this Saturday.

That's 10 1/2 feet over flood stage.

Depending on additional moisture Spies says that crest could be "bumped up":

The high water has already resulted in closing Elm Street between 14th and 15th avenues north in Fargo.

The North Broadway bridge is closed when the river hits 22 to 23 feet and at 28 feet, the 12th avenue north toll bridge will close.

The floating bridge at Dike East was removed yesterday by city of Moorhead staff and Minn-DOT closed Highway 75 near Kent in Wilkin County yesterday due to flooding.

Detour signs are set up.

No other serious flooding issues are expected.
