JAMESTOWN, ND (KFGO-AM) -- An inmate at the James River Correctional Center in Jamestown has been charged with felony assault for an attack on a prison guard.
The Stutsman County State's Attorneys office has charged Shawn Ostafin for the July 28 assault on correctional officer Jeremiah MacDonald. MacDonald was airlifted to a Bismarck hospital with severe head injuries.
Ostafin is also charged as a habitual offender which could mean another ten years in prison.
Ostafin was serving a sentence for terrorizing. He also has a conviction for the 1990 murders of his father and stepmother in Mandan.
Ostafin was disciplined last year for assaulting two staff members at the state penitentiary in Bismarck.
