MINOT, N.D. (AP) -- City and school officials in Minot are trying to find a way to provide two police officers to serve as school resource officers.
Minot is the only major North Dakota city that does not have police officers in schools. Assistant Superintendent Kim Slotsve says her previous experience with school resource officers in Grand Forks has convinced her that a police presence is valuable in a school setting.
The school district has committed to funding 75 percent of the salary and benefits of two resource officers. The City Council and Police Department are considering chipping in several thousand dollars to cover the rest.
