BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- A longtime employee of higher education has been named to an executive position in the North Dakota University System.
Sonia Cowen will serve as interim vice chancellor for academic and student affairs.
She replaces Michel Hillman, who has been working under a temporary contract. Cowen has spent more than 30 years as a senior adviser to executive academic posts, including responsibilities for academic and student affairs in three statewide university systems. Interim Chancellor Larry Skogen says the Cowen's appointment was made temporary to allow the new chancellor to decide the position in 2015. North Dakota voters will determine in November 2014 whether to dump the state Board of Higher Education and chancellor in favor of a three-person commission appointed by the governor.
