FARGO, ND (KFGO AM) -- Cass County Coroner Dr. John Baird asked for and received some help from county commissioners.
He says his office is facing a growing caseload and is under a lot of pressure without adequate morgue space, a formal office and full time employees.
Yesterday, county commissioners approved space for an office in the courthouse and for a van for death investigators.
Baird hopes this is just the start of improving working conditions for the coroner.
Baird says the county still doesn't have a morgue so that means he has to rely on local funeral homes to handle bodies.
Commissioner Darrell Vanyo says the board took care of the biggest issue, getting the investigators paid appropriately and having adequate space to work.
He also says, for now, morgue space is not a priority for the commission.
