Bismarck, ND (NDHSAA)—Sherman Sylling, Executive Secretary of the North Dakota High School Activities Association since 1999, has announced his plans to retire, effective June 30, 2014. Sylling informed the NDHSAA Board of Directors and NDHSAA General Assembly of his retirement plans at their regularly scheduled meetings October 16 and 17. The NDHSAA Board of Directors will be formulating a timetable and process of identifying Sylling’s successor at a future date. Sylling is the fifth full-time Executive Secretary of the Association, following Earl Abrahamson (1949-65), Frank Smith (1966-80), Bruce Anderson (1981-87) and Robert King (1988-98). Prior to joining the NDHSAA, Sylling was superintendent of schools in Cathay, Grace City, Fessenden-Bowdon, and Watford City, serving as a North Dakota education leader for 44 years.
