Fargo man honored by CIT International

FARGO (KFGO-AM) -- Robert Woods of Fargo has been named Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) International “2013 Consumer of the Year”.   

CIT International promotes community solutions to assist those with mental illness to reduce both the stigma and the need for further involvement with the criminal justice system. 

The award is given to a person who is recovering from a behavioral health issue who contributes in a profound way to CIT and its mission. As a recovering alcoholic, Mr. Woods is active in Alcoholics Anonymous and serves on the community CIT consumer panel where he addresses new CIT students concerning his perspective and struggles.

Woods was a Green Beret in the US Army from 1964 to 1972 and served three tours in Vietnam. He drove for Greyhound bus lines for 30 years.

Woods was nominated by Fargo Police Officer Todd Wahl.
