ABERCROMBIE, N.D. (KFGO-AM) -- Firefighters from more than a half dozen communities battled a fire at a privately owned grain elevator complex in Abercrombie, North Dakota Tuesday morning.
Fire Chief Kevin Bernier tells KFGO News the blaze was reported around 6am. The initial call-out was hampered because the fire destroyed the department's paging and radio system and tower, located at the elevator. Firefighters had to be alerted by the town's siren.
The elevator has large steel bins that Bernier says are empty. Several have been severely damaged.
Fire departments from Abercrombie, Colfax, Christine, Wolverton, Mooreton, Dwight, Breckenridge and Wahpeton are on scene.
