MOORHEAD, Minn. (KFGO-AM) - Same-sex couples will be able to get married in Moorhead just minutes after a new state law goes into effect. On July 31st, the Clay County Courthouse will open at 11:30 pm. A state law that allows same-sex couples to wed goes into effect at midnight, August 1st.
County recorder Bonnie Rehder says Judges Lisa Borgen and Michelle Lawson will preside at a group ceremony to be commenced just past midnight. ALL couples with a valid Minnesota marriage license and acceptable photo identification are welcome to participate free of charge.
Rehder says she has no idea how many couples will take part in the midnight ceremony. Interested couples must register in advance to be included.
