A 25-state tour organized by a pro-gun control coalition founded by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg hit Fargo with its message today. They want universal background checks for gun buyers and urged Senator Heidi Heitkamp to reverse her position opposing the background checks.
Carlee Soto, whose sister, a teacher at Sandyhook Elementary, was killed in December's Newtown massacre, told the crowd background checks can't stop all such shootings but can help save lives.
NRA member Dan Freeman of Fargo came to listen but he says he heard nothing to change his mind. Freeman says "there's enough gun laws in this country...just enforce what's out there."
Several dozen people turned out for the rally held at Island Park.
