The 13-member site selection committee for a new Fargo City hall has come up with about 20 possible locations.
The list could grow but the options presented today are primarily in the downtown area, north of Main Avenue. That includes the present City Hall site, the City Hall parking lot, the Mid-America Steel property, the block north of the Ground Transporation Center on N-P Avenue that includes the adult book store and the U-S Bank Plaza on Broadway.
Several sites south of Main Avenue will also be looked at. Committee member Norm Robinson says that includes:
The Park East Apartments, the Fargo High Rise, the Professional building on 4th Street south, YMCA, South University K-Mart, North University Sunmart, Union Storage and the nearby Nestor, Pierce Printing and former Taco Bell, Northern bar, the former Woodrow Wilson High School and Border States Electric. Landowner Clayton Runck also offered 15 acres next to the Cass County Jail. The site selection committee will come up with a "short" list of preferred sites next month. It hopes to have a recommended site ready by October.
