Charges of animal mistreatment will be considered against a Cass County breeder after deputies seized 170 puppies and dogs.
They were taken from the property of Darcy Smith, 51, who's sold dogs and supplied pet stores for the past 10 to 12 years.
The dogs are now under the care of Casselton Veterinary Clinic.
Asst. State's Attorney Leah Viste says the investigation is ongoing.
Smith could be only be charged with misdemeanors.
A fund called "Operation Cass County Rover Rescue" has been established at Bremer Banks to help with the cost of the animals' recovery.
They were crowded into kennels in two buildings without air conditioning.
