Newlyweds plead not guilty in Pennsylvania Craigslist murder

SUNBURY, Pennsylvania (Reuters) - A Pennsylvania newlywed couple on Friday pleaded not guilty to charges they killed a man after luring him to a rendezvous through an online dating advertisement, strangling him and stabbing him repeatedly.

Elytte Barbour, 22, and his 18-year-old wife, Miranda Barbour, entered their pleas in separate appearances at a state court in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, about 50 miles north of Harrisburg.

Prosecutors contend that the husband hid under a blanket in the back of their car as his wife drove to pick up a man she met through Craigslist at a mall north of Harrisburg on November 11.

Pennsylvania state trooper Brent Bobb testified that the victim, 42-year-old Troy LaFerrara, had answered the ad because he wanted companionship.

On Miranda's signal, Elytte strangled LaFerrara with a cord while Miranda stabbed him about 20 times, authorities said.

The two committed the killing because they "just wanted to murder someone together," police said at the time of their arrest.

Bobb said that Miranda Barbour told him she stabbed LaFerrara multiple times before she "blacked out."

LaFerrara's body was dumped in an alley in Sunbury, where police found him the next day.

After dumping the body, Elytte and Miranda bought bleach wipes, towels and cleaning liquid to remove the blood from inside the vehicle, police said. They then went out to eat.
