CHANHASSEN, Minn. (AP) -- Forecasters say the deep freeze that has gripped our region is more typical of mid-January temperatures.

The National Weather Service predicted readings won't make it much above zero in many areas of the state Wednesday. Meteorologists say average temperatures in recent days are about 20 degrees below normal.

A rare wind chill warning was issued for central and northeastern Minnesota through Thursday morning. With winds gusting to 25 mph, temperatures will feel like 40 to 50 below zero. The weather service says that means frostbite can occur in 10 minutes or less for exposed skin.
