FARGO, ND (KFGO AM) -- Former North Dakota Senator Byron Dorgan says he hopes President Obama moves cautiously on the situation in Syria.
Obama says he hasn't decided how to respond, but he's indicated the U.S. is moving toward a punitive strike.
But he says it would be a terrible mistake to use U.S. military power to force a leadership change in Syria.
Dorgan says it's easy to get involved, but much more difficult to extract ourselves.
Dorgan says what's happening in Syria is important to the U.S. because it destablizes that entire region.
Dorgan's comments were made on "News and Views" with Joel Heitkamp.
