Wildcats wary of lower division North Dakota St

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) - Kansas State could have come up with an easier opponent for its season opener than North Dakota State, the two-time defending national champions in what was once called Division I-AA.

The Wildcats will be breaking in a new quarterback and several newcomers on defense against a team that's won 14 games each of the last two seasons and has 18 starters back from last season.

It'll be a festive occasion in Manhattan, too. Kansas State will be dedicating a $75 million renovation of Bill Snyder Family Stadium prior to Friday night's game.

Then, it'll be up to QB Jake Waters to lead the Wildcats onto the field. The JUCO transfer won the starting job over Daniel Sams late in fall camp, though both are expected to play.
