The Vikings went out and signed Josh Freeman, the former Kansas State and former Bucs QB. Does this signal the end of the Christian Ponder era for the Minnesota Vikings?

I think and hope so. In many cases I think quarterbacks are not given enough time to see if they have what it takes to be successful. Ponder is not one of those cases. He's played behind an offensive line good enough to allow Adrian Peterson to run for 2,000 yards and hasn't shown much development. It's time to move on. I don't know if Josh Freeman is the right guy for the job, but he's at least shown some ability to succeed at the NFL level and for a one-year flier? Nothing to lose.

So, if this signals the end of Ponder, why is Leslie Frazier keep saying that Ponder is the starting QB (when he becomes healthy) and why isn't Freeman playing right away? You are telling me that one more week is going make that big of a difference to learn how to hand the ball off to Adrian Peterson?

Great question, and I don't really have an answer. While from a fan's standpoint, it doesn't matter that Freeman is getting $3 million this year since it doesn't tie up any future cap space, I bet it matters a whole lot from the owner's point of view. I just can't imagine that they would be okay with signing a quarterback for that cost midseason and have him be the second- or third-string quarterback. He's been unquestionably brutal this year, but he doesn't get $3 million to sit. Doesn't make sense any way you look at it.

I think there needs to be a clear answer to why you hire Freeman. It should be Freeman is going to start because he gives us the best chance to win this year. No one has said that. They have been saying We will see how he competes. There will be a chance for him to start. The more I listen to it, the more I get the sense they want him to learn the playbook this week and we will see how he does next week. But don't come at people with the "We will see." No. Tell me that the reason you signed him is you want to win and win now and Freeman is better than Ponder and Cassel. I would respect that way more than just saying we will see how it plays out.

When you pay a quarterback $3 million for one year partway through the season, it's either disingenuous on Frazier's part or there's a lack of communication between management and the coach. I don't think there's another option. I would assume Frazier's just trying to be coy, and at this point we should expect that from football coaches. Does Freeman start week 7, a Monday night game in New York? I say yes.

I say yes too. The Vikings QB situation has been a mess for years and whoever is in charge of evaluating QBs coming out of college needs to be fired. I would like to see Freeman change things for the better for the Vikings. I don't believe he will though.
