Email Conversations: FCS Playoff Pick 'Em

by Dan Gunderson

In this week's edition of Email Conversations between Pinto and the White Shadow, the two sports nuts have decided to come up with their own way to pick the FCS Playoff brackets.

Dan Gunderson

Brad,

Let’s get this FCS Bracket Challenge/Pick Em thing started shall we? We will go round by round. We can stick this in our Ongoing Wager section. I know I will beat you because I am the superior FCS mind. Anyways, I will kick things off and give my pick for the South Carolina State University vs. Furman game. You will follow suite and then move on to the next one down. Now that we have the rules in place, here we go...

I like South Carolina State over Furman because SCSU has one of the best defenses in the country. Second in scoring D, first in rushing D, and first in total defense. Plus, they are at home. The Bulldogs win and will face NDSU.

Bradley Jones

Dan Gunderson,

First of all, you almost made it through the first paragraph without misspelling something, which would have been a record for you (suit, not suite). Second, are you getting your trash talk lines from the Disney Channel? That's weak sauce right there. And third, give me Bethune-Cookman on the road over Coastal Carolina. The Wildcats are a heavy run team and have gotten off to fast starts this year, great recipe for winning on the road.

Dan Gunderson

Bradley Jones,

Awesome. The guy who would die if he were to receive any kind of direct sunlight to his skin is calling me out. Okay, game on buddy. Give me New Hampshire. Lafayette has a losing record. UNH will throttle them. No problem there and I am already 2-0 in this pick em.

Bradley Jones

Dan Gunderson,

At least my face will be protected with the manly beard I'm rocking. If you got sunburned right now your face would look like a checkerboard with the patches you have. Sam Houston State over Southern Utah all day. Southern Utah does have an FBS win, but it was against South Alabama. They played two FCS playoff teams this year and lost to both of them.

Dan Gunderson

Bradley Jones,

Now we are going after the beard? Please. Chuck Norris wishes he had my facial hair. I am going to take SDSU. The Lumberjacks have yet to lose at home but SDSU has a ball control, ground attack type of offense that works when you are trying to win on the road. Also, they are +14 in the turnover margin category. I have the Jacks.

Bradley Jones

Dan Gunderson,

I would go after your beard if you had one. It looks like Chuck Norris kicked half of your facial hair off of your face. I'm taking another road team in Samford. They've played a ridiculous schedule and have a couple of very good wins, including over Georgia Southern. With Georgia Southern's win over Florida, that obviously means that Samford is better than Florida. I enjoy the transitive property, Samford wins.

Dan Gunderson,

Bradley Jones,

I like your reasoning. Sound proof. I like Fordham over Sacred Heart. Beat Temple earlier this year, they beat a couple of CAA teams, including Villanova and have a solid QB in Michael Nebrich. 3,576 yards passing and 28 TDs.

Bradley Jones

Dan Gunderson,

I think my math teacher would enjoy the fact that I actually remembered the transitive property. I'm choosing Butler over Tennessee State because they have a great basketball team. And because I didn't want to spend too much time figuring out who is going to get their doors blown off by Eastern Illinois in the next round. Seemed like a waste of time.

Dan Gunderson

Bradley Jones,

I will accept that answer. Best part about Tennessee State is their logo is eerily similar to LSU's Tiger and, of course, it is the TSU Tigers, not the LSU Tigers. I do think, however, you neglect to do research will hurt you. Your pick though, so good luck!

Bradley Jones

Dan Gunderson,

And I like how you close out the first round with yet another grammatical mistake. It all comes full circle!
