SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) - Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has been engaged this week in all-out assault on the Gang of Eight's immigration reform bill.
Cruz gave a stirring speech on the Senate floor Monday night. He criticized members of both parties for their "mad rush to pass this bill".
During an interview on Fox News Channel's "Hannity" program, Cruz compared the bill to the Affordable Healthcare Act.
"It’s much like ObamaCare. We’re being told we got to pass it to figure out what’s in it. And frankly, I don’t think Republicans should be going along with Democrats in playing those kind of games," he said.
Cruz is right on the button. There's no rush to pass immigration reform. Congress isn't fighting any deadline, as they were during the debt ceiling debate. The haste is designed to keep members off balance and the public uninformed until its too late.
Cruz' arguments against the bill are intelligent and articulate. Conservatives are starving for this kind of bold, impassioned leadership.
According to the Washington Post, House Speaker John Boehner says he will only hold a vote on an immigration measure that enjoys support from a majority of Republicans.
We'll see. After the Farm Bill debacle in the House of Representatives, it appears to many that Boehner is simply flying by the seat of his pants.
