Fargo Shanley has named Luke Rustad its next baseball coach, according to an e-mail sent to parents by superintendent Dr. Michael Smith. Rustad was an assistant with the Deacons.
The coach of 14 years, Joel Swanson, did not have his contract renewed after a parent complained about a text message Swanson sent to players. You can read that story here: Shanley administration caves.
The e-mail from Smith references a petition signed by current players to have Swanson reinstated.
Here is the e-mail sent by Smith:
Dear Parents of the 2014 Shanley Baseball Team,
As you may know your son signed a petition to reinstate Joel Swanson as our baseball coach. We appreciate our student athletes taking an active role in the education process. Shanley’s tradition of excellence is built upon years of expecting great things from our student athletes both on and off the field. This team has demonstrated that in the past, and we expect more of the same in the future.
We have named Luke Rustad as our new Shanley Baseball Coach. Randy Nelson and I will be meeting with the team at 1:00 today to inform them of the decision and to help focus their attention forward.
If you would like to schedule a meeting with me to share your perspectives on our decision making process concerning this manner please contact me and we can schedule a time to meet.
