Tonight is President Barack Obama's State of the Union address. As someone interested in politics, I found myself asking what I would like to hear hear him say. It wasn't a very long list, but it does describe my politics.
I want to hear him say the money collected from Americans (taxes) is going to be invested in America. Just to name a few: new bridges, water plants, sewer projects, interstates, and schools.
I want to hear him say that freedom isn't free. In a global economy, America cannot afford to police the world. And, when it comes to defense spending, we cannot continue to outspend all of our allies combined.
I want to hear him challenge the country to take action. It's their (our) government. It's easy to complain about politicians, but it's time for those who think they can run for office to step up. There are Park Boards, School Boards, and City Counsels looking for good people.
Last, but not least, I want to hear his vision for my grandchildren's America. Not my children, my grandchildren... damn, I'm getting old.
